Alfa Medicus Breaks New Ground with Singapore’s First Integrated Day Surgery and MRI Centre at i12 Katong

Singapore, 7 May 2025 – Alfa Medicus has officially broken ground on Singapore’s first fully integrated day surgery and MRI centre, set to open at i12 Katong in phases, with Imaging services launching in the third quarter of 2025, followed by day surgery operations by the end of the year.

This flagship facility marks a transformative union between two of the group’s premier brands – Aptus Surgery Centre and OHM MRI – delivering a seamless, end-to-end patient journey that spans diagnosis, consultation, and same-day surgical intervention, all under one architecturally refined roof.

Spanning 8,400 square feet, the centre is meticulously designed to maximise operational efficiency while offering a hospitality-grade patient experience. Strategically located on Level 2 of i12 Katong and easily accessible by Marine Parade MRT, the space is easily accessible to both East Coast residents and commuters via major expressways. Patients can expect savings of up to 30% compared to traditional hospital settings – without compromising clinical excellence or service standards.

Aptus Surgery Centre will provide a comprehensive range of surgical services, including orthopaedic surgery, dental surgery, endoscopy, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynaecology, hand and reconstructive microsurgery, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, and vascular surgery. Facilities will include modern modular operating theatres, well-appointed recovery bays, and private ensuites – all tailored to ensure a smooth and comfortable day surgery experience.

Alongside, OHM MRI – a pioneer in orthopaedic imaging in Singapore – will bring its specialised diagnostic capabilities to the new i12 Katong facility. With six centres across the island, OHM is renowned for delivering precise, high-resolution MRI scans focused on joint and musculoskeletal conditions, particularly for the hand, wrist, and knee. These targeted imaging services play a crucial role in diagnosing sports injuries, degenerative disorders, and nerve-related pathologies, enabling clinicians to devise faster and more effective treatment plans.

Our mission has always been to provide quality care that is both accessible and patient-centred. At this new facility, patients can receive expert diagnosis and surgical treatment in one coordinated journey - without unnecessary hospital stays or inflated costs.

True to that vision, the space features warm, minimalist interiors reminiscent of contemporary wellness sanctuaries. From concierge-style receptions to thoughtfully crafted procedure suites, the design reflects a new paradigm in patient-centric care: one that honours privacy, peace of mind, and personalised attention at every touchpoint.

As the first facility of its kind in Singapore, the Alfa Medicus i12 Katong centre is more than a medical destination – it is a reimagination of what healthcare can and should be. The launch signifies a decisive move toward decentralising premium care, expanding access to cutting-edge treatments, and reshaping the way communities experience specialist healthcare.

About Alfa Medicus Pte Ltd

Founded with a bold vision to redefine specialist care, Alfa Medicus is Singapore’s first fully integrated healthcare ecosystem – uniting day surgery, advanced imaging, and specialist services within a single, coordinated network. With over 15 years of operational excellence, the group has steadily built a trusted reputation through its four core pillars: Ambulatory Surgery Centres (comprising Novena Surgery Centre, Aptus Surgery Centre, and Novaptus Surgery Centre), Diagnostic Imaging through OHM MRI centres located in Orchard, Novena, and other key locations, and a network of Specialist Clinics, including the Centre for Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, Oxford Orthopaedics, and Alfa Medicus Eye Centre. Regionally, the group extends its footprint through Aptus Surgery Centre Sdn Bhd in Penang, Malaysia.

Since opening its doors in 2008, Novena Surgery Centre laid the foundation for patient-centric ambulatory care in Singapore. This was followed by the launch of Aptus Surgery Centre in 2016 and Novaptus Surgery Centre in 2018 – each facility purpose-built to deliver safe, high-quality, and efficient day surgery experiences. At the helm of this pioneering journey is Dr Lim Beng Hai, who obtained his medical degree in 1985 and Master of Medicine in 1990. A leading figure in his field, Dr Lim has been a specialist in hand surgery since 1998, and remains dedicated to raising the standards of surgical excellence through innovation, precision, and compassionate care.

This integrated model ensures that every patient receives end-to-end continuity – from accurate diagnosis to specialist consultation, surgical intervention, and recovery – all with enhanced comfort, reduced costs, and uncompromised clinical outcomes.
